Q: What is the Cancer Prevention & Research Center?
A: The Cancer Prevention & Research Center (CPRC) is a regional research and educational
center, based Washington State University that serves as the focal point for cancer research at WSU and throughout the region.
Q: What does the CPRC Do?
A: The CPRC does many things. Our mission of “Prevention through Intervention” guides us in our research, our outreach, service and educational programs. A primary function of the CPRC is to facilitate the development of research projects involving many researchers from WSU and throughout the region. We also partner with several local, regional and national agencies such as the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service, the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation to provide information, develop and host awareness events and campaigns, as well as help individuals find out about clinical and prevention trials. We offer a full range of services to support these types of endeavors, such as grant preparation, conference and event management and help coordinate access to the many world class researchers and clinicians that are involved with the CPRC.
Q: Can I receive cancer treatment from the CPRC?
A: No, the CPRC is not a service line cancer center, which means that we do not provide medical treatment or advice. We are however able to refer you to many different organizations that can help you find a doctor, treatment or answer additional questions you might have about your cancer treatment.
Q: I have a question about cancer; can the CPRC help me answer it?
A: Cancer is a complicated process involving more than 100 different “diseases”.
We can provide you (or your group) with printed materials on a number of subjects, help put you in contact with one of our members through the use of our expert’s database or even direct you to different websites with information.
Q: Can you help me find a speaker for my group or organization?
A: Yes! Our membership is comprised of individuals from throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho. If you are interested in locating a speaker for your group, please call us at 509-335-2227 (local in Pullman) or 509-368-6720 (local in Spokane) and we will put you in contact with the most likely cancer speaker we can.
