The Center Staff is here to serve you. If we can help you in any way, we hope you won't hesitate to call. Some descriptions follow that describe some of our various responsibilities. We are eager to serve the needs of our members in any way we can.

Research Interests: Tumor biology of metastasis with emphasis on cell signaling mechanisms in apoptosis, invasion, drug resistance, and immunotherapy. Role of phytochemicals and amino acid restriction on apoptosis, invasion, and metastasis of melanoma and prostate cancer. Immunotoxicology with emphasis on cell-mediated immune responses. Mechanisms underlying the disruption of cell signaling and the cell cycle by alcohol consumption in the functioning of natural killer cells, natural killer T cells, and T lymphocytes. Influence of chronic alcohol consumption on the neuroendocrine system and its involvement in the control of cellular immune responses, tumor growth, and metastasis.

Teaching Expertise: Chemo- and targeted therapy of cancer. Mechanisms involved in cancer metastasis and the role of nutrients and phytochemicals in cancer prevention and control.

Research Interests:  Biobehavioral aspects of cancer survivorship. Interests include quality of life, functional status, demands of illness, symptom management, coping strategies, and the relationship between immune functioning and biopsychosocial variables. Specific cancer populations of interest include breast cancer and recipients of bone and stem cell transplants.  I use both quantitative standardized questionnaires and qualitative measurement techniques such as case-intensive interviews and focus groups.

Teaching Expertise:  Cancer survivorship, the measurement of quality of life, demands of illness and symptom distress, nursing research design and methods, qualitative methodology.

Daniel Campbell is the Assistant Director for the Cancer Prevention & Research Center. He is responsible for the overall day to day management of CPRC. His duties include; unit financial planning and management, purchasing, payroll, travel and property oversight, personnel management and supervision, research administration and compliance, evaluating, making recommendations and implementing overall center program design and growth. In addition, Daniel also manages Center strategic planning and evaluation, marketing, outreach and education activities, service centers, space planning, policy & procedure development/implementation as well as coordinating development activities in conjunction with the development office and the WSU Foundation. In collaboration with the Center’s Research Development Coordinator he also supports members by facilitating the development and management of single PI and multi-investigator/multi-disciplinary projects.

Debbie Haberman is the Research Development Coordinator with The Cancer Prevention & Research Center.  Her primary role is to help identify and facilitate new clinical and basic research opportunities with our members.  She is also the editor of Center Notes.  Based in Spokane, Debbie is available to work with all members to help bring project concepts to fruition.

Sharlynn Rima has a dual appointment with WSU Cancer Prevention & Research Center and the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service (CIS) of the Northwest Region as a Partnership Program Coordinator covering Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon and Idaho State. Through its Partnership Program, the CIS is the foremost source for the latest, most accurate cancer information and collaborates with other state and regional organizations to develop and implement appropriate cancer education/outreach programs that reach minority and underserved populations.

Stephen is the Center's Information Systems Coordinator. He is responsible for the technology related components of the Center including workstations, databases, software and other related technology. He is also the webmaster for the Center.

Ty Rosebrook is one of our student employees, providing technical and general office support for the Center. He is currently a junior at Washington State University and is working towards a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
