On the Way to the Cure

On the Way to the Cure – Komen On the Go™ is a community education and outreach tour that is part of the Komen Foundation’s efforts to engage all generations in the fight against breast cancer. After all, every three minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. and millions of women and men serve as their co-survivors, helping them through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. This exciting traveling tour visited 10 college and university campuses in 2004, 36 community events and campus stops in 2005 and will travel nine weeks this Fall to visit more than 35 community events and campuses.

Traveling in a colorful cruiser, the tour features:
  • Computer stations
  • Informational materials about breast cancer
  • Breast self-examination (BSE) guides
  • Opportunities for local involvement
  • Suggestions about how to be effective co-survivors
  • Resources about where to go for answers to your questions about breast health and breast cancer
  • An eight-foot “graffiti wall” at campus stops; the wall gives students a chance to share a memory or pledge their personal support in the fight against breast cancer. In many cases, the graffiti wall will remain on campus as a poignant reminder of the role every individual plays in ending breast cancer for good.
  • Exciting prizes and giveaways.

In addition, in some locations, survivors and health care professionals are on hand to answer questions and share their experiences and expertise.
