How You Can Help

Frequently Asked Questions for Donors

Q: Does the CPRC accept donations?

A: Yes, we gladly accept any gift you wish to make in support of the CPRC, its members and mission

Q: What will my gift be used for?

A: A variety of things. Gifts to the CPRC are used to fund research using a “Dollars to Discovery” Model. What that entails is that when you make a gift to the CPRC, those dollars will be used to help our members conduct studies, make new breakthroughs and also to help them be more competitive for federal research dollars. A perfect example of this is the story of a young high school student made a quilt and raffled it with the proceeds to help fight breast cancer. She donated a total of 1,475 dollars to the CPRC, who channeled that full amount to a member who was conducting breast cancer research. That member was able to make a discovery as to possible implications of stress reduction and cancer, which lead to a 1,000,000 proposal to the federal government. Dollars to Discovery works, but only when you give!

Q: Can I determine what kind of projects my dollars go to?

A: Of course. Donations made to the CPRC can be unrestricted or directed, depending on the desires of the donor. The CPRC can work with you to help determine what types of research are going on, and how to best maximize your gift dollars.

Q: Are my gifts tax-deductible?

A: Yes. The CPRC is a recognized center at WSU, and gifts made to the WSU Foundation on behalf of the CPRC are tax deductible, in accordance with applicable tax laws.

Q: Do you use those dollars for things besides research?

A: Sometimes gift dollars are used to support research related activities such as national speakers, scholarships, research team meetings and related expenses.

Q: Will you let me know how my dollars are being used?

A: Yes. All donors to the CPRC receive copies of our newsletter CENTERNOTES, as well as progress reports on the CPRC and other materials. These publications highlight grants that have been awarded to the CPRC, new breakthroughs that have been published by members and other current events and happenings. Also, all donors are recognized in a “List of Donors” publication that is released with the Centers Bi-Annual Report (unless the donor has requested that no public recognition be made)

Q: Will my dollars stay in my community?

A: Yes. The CPRC supports local research. Local for the CPRC is the Inland Northwest, where our members are currently working. We fund projects that have the greatest potential for making a contribution to the understanding and treatment of cancer, make a strong local impact, or help the region.

Q: What kind of non-tax and other benefits do I receive when I donate to the CPRC?

A: Donations to the CPRC are tax deductible in accordance with relevant IRS regulations. Depending on the level to which you give, donors may be eligible for membership in various Center and or WSU donor programs You may also elect to leave a legacy in recognition of yourself, a family member or loved one by securing naming rights to various scholarships, lectureships, or more. Ultimately, you receive the benefit of knowing that you are joining the fight against cancer in a way that DOES and WILL make a difference!
