Member Services
The Cancer Prevention & Research Center provides a host of services dedicated to helping members be more successful in their areas of research, education and service.
We are continually updating these services as the needs of our members change.
Please check back to the section often for current opportunities.
Research Development Services
Project Team Facilitation
With a special emphasis on inter disciplinary approaches to basic, clinical, and applied research, the CPRC can provide staff support in helping to identify potential project team members, coordinate and host team meetings, provide resources for idea development and support proposal development and submission.
CPRC Awards
The CPRC works with donors and agencies to generate a pool of funds for special and targeted projects. Members can apply for funds to stimulate basic, clinical, translational and educational projects by our members.
Proposal Submission Assistance
CPRC members are encouraged to request assistance in the preparation of extramural
grant applications. The CPRC will assist the investigator in developing
a plan of success to turn ideas into fundable proposals. This might include customized searches
for funding, literature collection and agency identification. The CPRC can also
help coordinate with the investigator and appropriate offices on regulatory requirements.
Development Activities
In conjunction with the Washington State University Foundation and respective colleges, the CPRC cultivates and works with donors to match those who wish to invest in a cure with those who are working to find a cure. As the focal point for cancer research as WSU, the CPRC works with members to showcase their ideas and secure start-up, bridge, and other gift investments.
Human Subjects Protocol Development and Assistance
Members who are developing basic, clinical, translational or educational
projects can receive from the CPRC assistance in developing, submitting, and or
revising Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications.
Online Collaboration Tools
Members who have projects and wish to collaborate can now do so in an online environment
that stores documents, notes and other lists of information. Members and or member
teams can receive a free website hosted by the CPRC that allows for even the non
tech user to have a site where virtual collaboration with colleagues can occur and
is available from anywhere that has an internet connection.
Pre-Screened Federal
Grant Announcements and Funding Searches. Based upon member profiles, the CPRC routinely
screens federal, state and private announcements for new extramural opportunities.
These announcements are grouped together on the main CPRC website and are available
quick download. Members who request a specific search can also have proposals screened
and sent directly to them in paper format.
Literature Searches
For members who are interested in pursuing a topic and would like the relevant literature
delivered to them in copy format, the CPRC will assist members using provided search
terms in collecting, printing and packaging the relevant literature for member review.
Preliminary Grant Reviews
New and seasoned investigators who are members of the CPRC and are ready to submit
their applications for extramural funding may request a courtesy peer review from
a special panel of CPRC members. The CPRC coordinates the committee selection, handles
confidentiality issues surrounding the proposal and prepares a streamlined comments
report for the potential applicant.
Research Administration and Management Services
Centralized Data Collection and Databases
For projects that require the collection and storage of large data sets, the CPRC
can develop secure, online, custom data collection tools. These tools can store
and export results to most common statistical and spreadsheet applications via the
web, eliminating the need for costly IT development resources to the member.
Participant Recruitment
For members who need assistance in developing strategies and or programs that successfully recruit study participants. The CPRC can assist with the design of recruitment
material, online or telephone registration, basic tracking and other services. The CPRC can also help develop and assist with online advertising, and targeted electronic and print mailings.
Manuscript/Presentation
For Members who need assistance with the development of manuscripts, papers or presentations. This can include helping develop your PowerPoint presentation, loan-out of presentation equipment, limited editing of graphs and support in finalizing publications for submission.
Community Events and Outreach Services
Speakers Bureau
Would your community group like to have a world class speaker come and talk about Cancer? The expertise of CPRC members transcends research labs, the classroom and the clinic. Many members are available to give scholarly, public or group presentations
throughout the Inland Northwest. For more information call the Spokane or Pullman offices of the CPRC for assistance in arranging a speaker.
Outreach and Educational Events
Does your event need more than just a speaker? The CPRC can bring a table top or full 6 foot display to your event complete with printed materials and hands on learning tools. For more information contact the Pullman office at 509-335-2227 for scheduling.
Online Cancer Community Events Calendar
Is there a cancer related event that you would like publicized? If so, the CPRC
maintains a calendar system for events in our area (Eastern Washington, Eastern
Oregon and Idaho)
Distinguished Lectureship in Cancer Series
Annually the CPRC hosts a basic sciences and a clinical science speaker per year in its Distinguished Lectureship in Cancer Series. These world renowned speakers offer scholarly talks on a variety of subjects. Talks are usually open to the public and are held in Spokane and Pullman.
Educational Services
Resource Library
The CPRC maintains one of the largest collections of free printed materials in the region. These materials cover a variety of subjects relating to cancer. Materials are available in Pullman and Spokane free of charge. Bulk quantities are also available at a free or reduced cost.
Auxiliary Services
Member Retreat(s) and Workshops
In addition to the team meetings that the CPRC facilitates, the Center also hosts a member retreat and various workshops throughout the year to encourage professional face to face time. These venues provide a valuable opportunity for members to interact outside the normal confines of daily activities to explore new techniques, findings and ideas.
Conference/Meeting Support Services
If you are planning a meeting that involves a cancer related topic, the CPRC can help with AV support, registration services, site planning/management, and other related activities.
Membership Directory
As individuals join the CPRC, their profiles and contact information are uploaded to the main CPRC website. This helps members find others with similar interests, and helps to showcase the world class caliber of the CPRC members. Printed directories
are also provided through workshops, seminars and annual reports.
Awards for High Achieving Student Scholars
The CPRC has a strong commitment to the next generation of cancer researchers, clinicians and educators. Various opportunities exist for graduate students to work with CPRC members in labs, and for undergraduate students who are working at a high scholastic level to be recognized through various awards.
